Koidu Hospital gets Boost from First Lady |
In her campaign to reduce maternal mortality in Sierra Leone and promote institutional delivery, First Lady Mrs Sia Nyama Koroma on Saturday, 4TH August 2012 handed over medical equipments and accessories, baby packs and solar lights to the Koidu Government Hospital in Kono in the east of the country. Her donation is aimed at improving the quality of life of new born babies and pregnant women who give birth in hospitals. Handing over the equipments, First Lady said that she is complimenting government’s work in the health and education sectors. She said that the Free Health Care initiative is a big chain tied to the foot of government, but that government has to maintain and sustain it to make maternal mortality a problem of the past and a foundation for the future of the country’s children

7th .African First Ladies Summit |
The First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma arrived with a delegation of Eight [8] at the Nnamdi Ezikiwi International Air Port, Abuja-Federal Republic of Nigeria on Monday July 23, 2012 to attend the 7th. Summit of African First Ladies Peace Mission. On Tuesday July 24, the Experts Committee met at the ECOWAS Parliament, beside International Conference Centre, Area 10, Garki of which two [2] representatives were requested from each Country. The Chairman of the Expert Committee was Dr. [Mrs.] Asmau Abdul Kadir, the Special Adviser on Gender issues to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

FIRST LADY CONTINUES TO CONSOLIDATE CARMMA THROUGH THE DISTRIBUTION OF MORE BABY PACKS TO HOSPITALS. |
First Lady of Sierra Leone, Mrs. Sia Koroma continues on her follow-up activities since the launch of the Campaign on the accelerated reduction of Maternal Mortality in Africa (CARMMA). The Office of the First Lady initiated the production and distribution of baby packs as a way of encouraging institutional delivery, and a key strategy in reducing maternal related problems in Sierra Leone. The package contains the immediate items that are needed for the mother and the new born baby.
